Forte’s Restaurant On The Square in Crossville, TN.

APtravelnews-Crossville, TN. June 15th–When Barb and I go out for dinner we have preconceived notions of what we should reasonably expect for our money. No, of course not all restaurants are the same. Some are good, some (very few are great) and some are slated to be wiped off our consideration for a revisit forever! Fortunately we can report that Forte’s On The Square is one of those few “great ones.” We started off with shrimp cocktail-six firm, tastey crusteceans big enough to get more than two chews out of. The cocktail sauce was right-on. Not too sharp to take away or mask if it had to, the fishy aroma of the shrimp (the sauce did not have to). The sauce perfectly matched the flavorful white critters. A loaf of hot pumpernickle bread accompanied the appetizers. Mussels Fra Diavlo were a true treat; the sauce would just have to be soaked up with the bread. Frankly, those appetizers and pineapple drinks would have been enough for anyones meal, but then came the perfectly done 14-ounce “King Cut” prime rib with an au jus, accompanied by a hardy baked potato and delicious green beans for us to enjoy. Just in case we’d miss it, we also ordered their Chicken Mediterranean-a grilled chicken served over fresh spinach and topped with mozzarella, tomato, capers, olives and lemon. A wonderful garlic pasta accompanied this dish which we saved to eat the next day at home after tasting it and salivating uncontrollably. WOW! was that tastey! We squared off our end-of-meal with a peanut butter chocolate cheesecake. Forte’s moved to Crossville in 2009 and Chef John and brother Ken keep this restaurant along with their wives humming along in great order. We counted 60-specialties on their menu and of course they also have specials as well. We noticed that they do have at least 50 of my favorite recipes, so “I’ll be back” as one of those movie heroes coined in a Germanic accent would say.
Forte’s is open for lunch Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 to 2pm. Forte’s opens for dinner Friday and Saturday from 4-9 pm. They are also open on Sunday for special events and catered parties. Contact John or Ken Forte’ at 931-787-1744
Natures Balance!
APtravelnews-May 27-Crossville, TN.–When we left last year we were quite sure our pond would freeze over and the little open water made by our aerator windmill would keep the center of the pond open for our ducks to be safe from the big red fox that periodically visits to see if duck is in season. It’s funny how everything has a domino effect when it comes to relationships and nature. Our pond did not freeze due to warmer than usual temperature. The ducks took up their position on the edge of the pond instead of that circle of life-saving water for them. The fox ate well! So too it seems did the otters that found our pond open and full of sluggish cool fish, my koi, giant catfish, and bigger bass disappeared. The otters got fat!

SPICE THAI-SUSHI RESTAURANT EXOTICALLY DELICIOUS!
APtravelnews-April 19, St Lucie West, FL.– Barb and I love really good Thai foods. We really like excellent, freshly made California Roll and cooked shrimp roll. Pad Tai noodles with scallions and eggs, either shrimp, beef or chicken-I travel far for those too! Good is a very relative word, is it just good so you can safely eat it, is it good because it’s tasty, is it good to look at?
Well, if it’s all good as described above, then it’s excellent! Spice-Sushi is excellent and new owners and managers would have it no other way. Patti, the past owner left for Chicago. She was homesick for her family there. Partners; Rachnee and Montree took over the location and added sushi to the Thai menu. Soon there will be ceviche too. Wat, the sushi specialist has 8-years’ experience creating all types of rolls in Miami. They offer take-out and delivery, and are open all week and weekend. 772-873-9599. They are located on Peacock Blvd. next door to a fine Mexican restaurant right near the Post Office.
We had Pad Thai today, along with a fabulous crab avocado salad. We also tried a Komango Roll that had cooked shrimp and tasty sesame rice. We also tasted from a sushi, sashimi that came with salmon and a small California Roll. The fish in white coconut sauce seasoned with a green chili curry. Was excellent too! For dessert we had a hot banana and vanilla ice cream dish. All in all, a fabulous m

eal. But, only problem was we only have one stomach and so we had to take home a Thai-Thai bag for tomorrows lunch or dinner.
